 最近では、クチナシという名前よりも、ガーデニアの名前の方が耳慣れているかもしれません。
6月から7月頃に、とても香りの良い白い花を咲かせます。
実は染料や漢方薬として使われてきました。

Perhaps the name of Kuchinashi (Cape jasmine, Gardenia augusta) is being less popular in Japan because many people call Kuchinashi Gardenia recently.

Kuchinashi has fragrant and lovely white flower which blooms between June and July.Its fruits has been used for dyestuff and traditional medicine from old era.

They grow in shade and moisten area therefore they may not get much attention.

In addition, ever green leaves have unique shape and pattern and those are beautiful too.
Yuki-no-shia is very tough plants and easy to propagate thus very useful ground cover.

ヤマユリも小さく可憐な花で、恥ずかしがりやさんなのか下向きに咲きます。
花は小さいですが、ユリだけありとても良い香りがします。

Sasayuri (Lilium japonicum) is ingenious in west part of Japan.
Therefore, I did not see them when I was in Tokyo.

Their flowers are smaller than Yamayuri (gold-banded lily) and cute besides fregrant.
However, they look the ground and not face to us so they must be shy flowers.
They are in bloom between late May and early June.
